Type 1 DVLA driving license renewal question

I've received my DVLA medical driving license renewal paperwork in the post and have a question regarding a strangely worded question on the "Medical Driving License Renewal Form (D42)".

The question reads:
"Have you ever had or do you currently suffer from any of the following conditions: 1). Diabetes controlled by Insulin (no need to tell us if controlled by tablets or other injections unless you experience hypoglycaemia requiring the assistance of another person)."

I've already filled in my DIAB1 form, and have mentioned there that I haven't had a serious hypoglycaemia incident requiring help from another person, but I'm stumped as to whether or not I should tick this box on the D42 form! I do indeed suffer from diabetes, and inject insulin, but I've never suffered a hypo requiring assistance from another person...

How have others answered this?

Just tick yes on the form. It's a general form that's sent with all medical renewals. If you think logically you can hardly tick no can you? The form is just checking you have no other conditions which are notifiable. Nothing sinister about it at all.

The part of the question in brackets doesn't apply to you, but the first part does so you should tick it.

agree with above posters -- you are insulin dependant type 1 -- and therefore fit the criteria to answer yes or tick the box

hope you sail through the renewal !! :)
