DVLA Grrr !

I notified the DVLA Jan this year about my diabetes. I am LGV licensed and so stopped driving trucks whilst awaiting medical etc. I received letter from them in Apr telling me I needed a medical, no problem. I booked medical with Diabetes & Endocrine consultant at Addenbrookes Hospital. This was 1st July. Took all relevent BG readings etc and all was well. Mid Aug, still not heard from DVLA. I called them and was told "still awaiting medical report from Addenbrookes. Once received, no problem."
I chased up paperwork and it was faxed over. Sorted.......No.
I received a letter from DVLA this morning telling me I need to book an appt for a medical. WHAT !!!
I called them and was told that first medical was not done by a doctor specialising in diabetes so had to be re-done ! Unbelievable, my original medical was with the head diabetes consultant at Addenbrookes Hospital. I now have to have another medical, back at Addenbrookes, with a different doc. I tried explaining this to lady from DVLA but she was having none of it. I've now been waiting over 8 months and am no further forward. So frustrating. I'm fortunate that I am still able to work but if my job relied on LGV license, I'm sure I'd have lost my job.
Sorry for the rant and I know not much can be done but just wanted to write it all down ! Feel a little better now.

It does appear that the DVLA work by going through 'tick' boxes but not sure if you jumped the gun and got a medical report done by Addenbrookes yourself or whether the DVLA asked for the medical report so that's why you went. None the less Addenbrookes is a top notch regarding diabetes care so the report you had done and posted off should be sufficient.

And the DVLA wonder why an online petition has been set up???? GRRRRR Soon diabetics will be congregating in Swansea in protest and block the roads like the sheep :x :lol:

See if your MP can intervene as SW11bloke did. You might then get somewhere..

Hope you have better luck than me. As you say, Addenbrookes have been fantastic and none of this is their fault. My initial appt in July was at the request of DVLA, not myself, this is why I'm so annoyed really. They wrote to her. Now they say she was never qualified. Crazy. She is the head consultant at the Diabetes & Endocrine clinic. I may try the MP route, the DVLA, although very polite, will not sway from their course of action. Even if it makes no sense.

Thanks Brett. I feel like telling them to ram the LGV portion of my license to be honest and stick with cars. What else gets my goat is that I have to go through this every 12 months ! May as well just apply again as soon as it comes through ! It's like painting The Severn Bridge !

Quick update. DVLA latest is that my local hospital is too convenient, Cambridge ( Addenbrookes ). They are now insisting I go for another medical at Welwyn Garden City Hospital ! About a 90min drive each way ! They really p*** me off ! Another day wasted. Another 6-8 week wait for my license.
