How many GPs have a PhD? :crazy:GlazedDoughnuts said:Doctors are humans too, a phd doesnt make them immune from making mistakes. Its a part of life.
stuart1973doncaster said:Yes as above the person commenting on why i'm giving the doctor a hard time how about 3 weeks of not being able to drive and lots of extra expense(around £300) such as taxis loss of insurance tax and massive inconvenience not to mention stress to my personal life and independence,is this person real??? maybe he,she should have it happen to them and i'm sure that view would rapidly change,a doctor paid lots of money sinmply shouldn't be making a simple mistake on these forms end of!.
Hi I needed my 3 yearly dvla medical I received all paperwork I answered all questions gave the dvla consent to contact my own dr I then try and get an appointment I’m told no appointments day after day I decided to ask for another dr I had seen before same responce no appointments I then receive a letter I had to see a locum dr I was very unhappy but thought I best go a few days later no liecence I was more than shocked I call the surgery and ask for a copy of the dr’s paperwork I find he changed one answer I complained too the manager and straight away it was me that answered it like that his dr had done nothing wrong ( even though I had already ansered all questions a few days before ) I then get worried I try contacting my own dr ( she has been for 30 years ) first letter no reply second letter no reply third letter I hand delivered it to the surgery still no reply I’m then informed that anybody with in that surgery can open private and confidential letters so I finally get one delivered too her hand again no reply I then hear on social media manager resigned so I try again I send 4 letters too the new manager received no reply I contact theNHS they tell me they are not interested I then hear my own dr has left the surgery and to make it worse I’m told my dr is a partner so in truth she was never going to help me I always Thought a dr had a duty of care but no I’m unsure why it’s set up like this ie dvla pay the dr changing it from NHS work to private work hence the NHS can then turn their back on you I’m left with nothing I have no way to challenge a dr in a court of law as I have no money I’m unemployed and feel for me my life will be one hell of a struggle as I doubt I will work again I can’t beleive that in this day people with any disability are treat like they are nothing my dr always use to say how nasty the dvla are well in my opinion I will never trust a dr nor the NHS againHello all,i'm stuart and a type1 diabetic for 30 years hb1c 5.9, i recently recevied my usual 3 yrs driving license renewal forms which i filled in and went for my medical which was absolutely fine as i take great care of myself and the doctors is always impressed with me,anyway several weeks went by and i got my letter from dvla and what i thought was my new license but to my horror it had been revoked due to me not having any hypo awareness,i then as you can imagine couldn't believe my eyes and was shocked and confused by this as on my medical the doctor gave me the all clear etc.Anyway i rang dvla and they didn't really sound to bothered about this shocking position i was in ie-work personal life independance financial etc etc they just said to see my doctor which i did and showed him the form and he agreed there must have been a mistake and would support me in this matter,he suggested we wait for dvla to contact him and i refused as i demanded this to be sorted asap, while was was there i rang dvla back up and the person i got this time actually told me on one of the questions the doctor was asked was is stuart aware of hypoglycemia (question 9 i believe) and it turned out he ticked the no box instead of the yes one(fool) so for obvious reasons dvla did see me as a risk and took me off the road.Anyway i got the doctors receptionist to fax dvla right away that he had made a mistake and ticked the wrong box and to allow me to drive again asap as i urgently needed to drive.Dvla recieved the fax and after lots of calls i found out it was with there internal medical group and was been looked at but they just didn't seem to bothered about it,it was a simple error and evidence to back it up.So i thought give my local mp a call which i did and explained the matter and he was more than helpfull he said he could go to dvla and spk to people higher up and try and speed things up,amazingly he called me back later that day and said he was waiting on some senior contacting him back with an update and true to his word he called me back saying they had the information needed(the fax from my gp)and the bar on my license was lifted. The next day a complaints person from dvla contacted me to tell me i was free to dive again so i was overjoyed with this. All the stress and anxiety caused by my gp ticking the wrong box unbelivable.Just wanted to raise awareness to people and make sure your gp fills in the form correctly as knowledge is power.Next step a meeting with his practice manager to raise a formal complaint and to put forward my troubles etc.

Its a complete pain losing your license, and i know cos i lost mine cos of filling in a form wrong and didnt get it sorted for months - with a solicitor involved too. Doctors have a busy work life and make mistakes at times same as we all do. I have a friend just now who is a solicitor and she is putting in a complaint about someone in the court system just now too....cos someone made a human error. I just think its going too far putting in formal complaints etc. Im getting scared of this world of perfectionism....there doesnt seem to be room for mistakes anymore, but humans will always make mistakes. Im sorry you had some bother with your licence, but the doctor did all he could to correct his error. For me - that would be enough
