Hi All,

This is my first post to the forum, and is bourne out of sheer frustration.....

Has anybody else had the problems I am encountering in trying to get their driving licence reinstated with the catagories to drive upto 7.5 ton vehicles?
I filled in the required forms back in May as my current licence(3 year restricted) was due to run out at the end of July, it happened to coincide with needing to update my photograph on the photocard part as this was now 10 years old,so all was duly filled in and sent to DVLA.
At the same time I filled in the forms to reinstate my C1 status as I need the ability to very occasionaly drive a 7.5ton truck as part of my job(I sell trucks for Mercedes).
DVLA wrote back to me with another bunchof forms which needed me to have an appointment with my GP and a medical which then needed the forms to be filled in and signed in my presence, and I had to pay the GP for this service.
Theseforms were also sent back to DVLA as they asked, signed by my GP.
It should be noted that I have only twice ever suffered a Hypo, both times whilst playing golf, and with plenty of warning which I was aware of.
I always check my Blood levels before driving, I have a meter that collates all my levels and the GP looked at all my readings and signed the forms to say so.
I have now had another letter and forms from DVLA insisting that I now need to see a diabetic consultant, who needs to fill in various forms that are exactly the same as the forms my GP filled in, and that failure to complete this will terminate my application.
Why is this so difficult? Why has all this got to be done again by a consultant, do they not accept that my GP is telling the truth?
I thought legislation had been passed to make this process easier?
Am I alone in this problem, or has anyone else been suffering from this buracratic nightmare?
