ear infection

Hi all, typical...................off on hols in 2 days and have an ear infection, outer ear (aka "swimmers ear") and have antibiotic drops with a cortisone in it called Gentisone. GP says an outer ear infection does not make you feel giddy, however, I do feel a bit out of sync, :cry: could that be due to the ears? they are very sore, painful and I have whooshing noise in them too, gd job not flying !!

surprise surprise, gp says diabetics more prone to ear infections...is there ANYTHING it doesn't make us more prone to?? :evil:

You have my sympathy - I often have otitis externa tho I don't expect that's the same, but ear problems are just so annoying and inconveniencing. What I have realised from things I've read and heard is that sometimes water gets trapped behind some hard wax and makes a whooshing noise. I hope you can get it sorted soon and have a good holiday.

I too, had an ear infection about three months ago. My ears felt blocked and at first, the nurse thought it was a build up of wax and arranged for me to have them syringed. I had to use Cerumol Ear Drops for a week prior to syringing, in order to soften the wax. However, even after syringing, my ears still felt blocked. The nurse said there seemed to be eczema on my ear drums and my GP prescribed Gentisone HC Ear Drops, which seemed to have very little effect initially but thankfully it eventually cleared up.

The funny thing is the onset of my ear infection seemed to coincide with the time my doctor put me on Ramipril for High Blood Pressure. I did ask him could the ear infection be a side effect of the drug, but he claimed it wasn’t.

I do hope you manage to get your ear infection sorted out because I know how miserable these things can make you feel.
