What the heck tonight like a guy who is completely blind one missing a leg and the other missing toes.

To say I'm traumatised is an understatement though from what I've read 95%+ of retinopathy can be treated if caught early enough

Like what on earth!

Though I can testify to success regarding injection treatment to my very early caught Maculopathy...

Ironically from your description of the episode.
I have indeed sadly seen a guy at the eye clinic wearing 3/4 length shorts with what looks like a titanium? (I got no idea what they are made from.) Prosthetic lower leg.
& worked with a T1 ( diagnosed for over 50 years.) with a successful laser treatment for retinopathy. But unfortunately, 3 toes removed...

Its even worse when Ian then in the next scene says hes eating fruit and breads like common if you are going to scare people do not push them to fruit.

It does scare me retinopathy though I have read 95% of it can be treated and even more so the statistics where 50% of people have some form within 20 years was a statistic from the 1970s - 2000s I think given the NHS / Specsavers and Digital screening most should have no reason to have it develop to proliferative and if they do even then they should be on a screening list to keep an eye on it.
 
I was in hospital for 14 weeks at this time 2 years ago - 8cm deep bed ulcer (not diabetes related), now completely fine - BIG lesson learned! There was a point when I didn't know whether I was coming out with 1 leg missing, or in a box.

Over the 14 weeks I was split between two hospitals; in one of them, a lady was admitted to the next bed to me. The porters had to pass me and all I saw was purple and black from the knee down.

Even when the Consultant was summoned to see her, she still wouldn't/couldn't believe him when he said two of her toes, plus maybe half her foot would be amputated.

I never saw her again once she went to theatre. However, her reaction to her situation has stayed with me and, how ever down I get, I think myself lucky and remember to stay real about my own diagnosis.
 
Yes, I was a bit disappointed that he was talking about fruit and toast.
 
I thought newly diagnosed Ian was going on like a desmond course so was surprised that the people there had such severe complications. As a result of his experience he has agreed to change his diet and eat lots of fruit. I'll stick to Hollyoaks
 
If only the story line would have Jane finding this web site for Ian and try LCHF to kick his T2 into remission ... I watch way to much TV!!!!
 
Last night, Ian's son got him an Eatwell plate, with one third portions of protein, carbohydrates, and veg marked on it. Ian said he didn't need it as he is a chef and knows what he has to eat.

They no doubt get the diet information from the other website DUK.
 
I find myself getting so angry at every word being used in the diabetic story line . its such a shame because it was a real opportunity to start making a difference, but yet again just a repeat of the same old stuff , with the diabetic individual being given he slot of " village idiot" incapable of controlling his own greed .

Has this website officially written to the BBC and pointed out the successes here ?

I don't watch eastenders my dad said it was depressing drivel 20 years ago (and im from the north). I did see the images of him crying on face book and read it was because he was diagnosed type 2 diabetic. I feel very sorry for you all on here! It seems that the testimonials of real type 2 success stories may not gave been found. It is inevitable that the telly will have to do what the nhs say.

Funny, or quite sad. What an ideal opportunity to tell the viewers how to do it lchf.
But it strikes me as odd since Adam Woodyat is close friend to Tom Kerridge. He has lost a lot of weight so it may be that he has followed Tom's advice and his new cook book. If so he should speak out. Hmmm. X
 
However, the BBC is only ever going to follow government guidelines for something like this.... public service broadcasting and all that...
 
True the BBC will stick strong and hard to NHS guidelines as they would be liable for anything else.
