Just need some advice on what everyone does when they eat later then usual, say if you eat at 6. And you eat at say 9, because I find my sugars go up rapidly, any ideas on how to conteract this, barring corrections

@Padders91 What is your current insulin regime? If you are on MDI, this shouldn't pose any difficulties as you'd simply take your bolus as per usual. If you are using a mix, I'm afraid that I can't help as I have no experience of this.

Try to eat as early as possible or have the bigger meal on your work break at 3 or 4pm and a light meal (very low carb) before bed.

Do you mean your bg goes up between 6-9pm without eating, if so then you need to look at increasing your basal insulin, if on the other-hand you are asking if you can eat later in the evening then the answer is yes, as your on MDI (Novorapid & Levemir) you can be flexible with your meal-times and eat when you want to eat.

Hi tim2000, I am currently on 4 injections a day, novorapid and levemir, but tend to go higher in the afternoons, say around 4, Evan though I am carb counting at lunch, my morning readings tend to be ok, I currently have around 17 units of levemir at night before bed, but will probably need to decrease the dose because I am plummeting overnight

Hi jimmyjames, I try to eat at the same time each day, mostly around 6, but sometimes if I am out and about and I can't eat at the same time, my sugars tend to creep up. So they I have to do a correction dose with my tea, I think I might try going on the new insulin called tresiba, and see if that would stop the increase of sugars.

The problem is noblehead is that I find my sugars are plummeting overnight, with the dose I am on now around seventeen units, this is why I am wondering if My sugars are creeping up in the afternoon. I might try splitting my levemir to see if that helps.

I typically eat around 6 but on gym days I won't eat dinner until at least 9, I have never had any issues with this. I find as long as my carb ratio is correct if all works out.

Also you may be someone who could require varying carb ratios? Maybe your more sensitive in the evening and should look into adjusting for that.

Also I know my sugars stay higher longer if I have caffeine around my injection times, I have to space out any caffeine I drink by an hour or else expect to be higher by about 1-2mmol/l... Are you someone who has a coffee around 6pm or something like that?

Most people (not all) find that split-dosing levemir gives them a better 24 hour coverage, worth discussing this with your DSN.
