Eating out

In a few weeks there's gonna be some meals out, one is a pub/restaurant which I can deal with, can have pate no toast then steak or fish with vegetables, then cheese no crackers. The other visit is to The Harvester, whats good, whis been and what's good to eat that's low carb and low sugar? I am trying to keep to 50g carbs but I can go to a bit more if needed

Biggest bit of meat you can find and lots of salad and veggies. I would have thought that Harvester was quite good for that sort of thing (although I haven't been myself for about 15 years).

Yep that's about what I do. If I go the steak route then I ask them to top the steak with bacon and a fried egg and specifically tell them no chips - I like the funny looks you get as they obviously recognise you must be on some diet as you've told them no chips yet you've asked them for all this extra fried stuff  Nothing wrong with a few onion rings and definitely add some r mushrooms. A few crackers with cheese is fine but a starter is always the difficult one. Whitebait would be good if they do it. Just remember you are going out to enjoy yourself so don't be to strict. Another thing, try and make sure you're not the designated driver as if you're really worried about BG levels or crack and eat something bad then a small amount of alcohol will keep your BG's in check. Spirits are best so a gin or vodka and slimeline tonic is ideal as its zero carb.

I went to a Harvester and had a 10 oz steak with green beans. I had lettuce cucumber tomato and a bit of mayo from the salad bar to go with it.

Thanks, I like the fried egg and bacon on top that sounds good, I assume all the oil/butter they may cook in will be ok?

I like green beans and yes the salad bar should be quite easy.

Yes I would assume so. Unlike chips I would guess the steak, bacon and fried egg would get cooked on one of those griddle things rather than in oil anyway.

Thanks

Just been looking menu online, all looks good, there's loads to choose from, salmon and snapper look good too.

I've looked at the websites for Harvester and Beefeater myself and they don't have much nutritional info anymore. Pizza Hut, Prezzo, Paul, Zizzi and Cafe Rouge have quite a few low carb choices, Wimpy, Little Chef and McDonald's don't have many. Breadings and sauces can be really carby, much more than you might expect.

Nandos :!: Any other choice is just silly. Nandos is low-carb heaven (if you can avoid the peri-peri chips) and they list all their nutritional information of the web-site.

Nando's indeed! "Bok-Bok" Low carb, spicy chicken heaven!!

What are you saying "Bok-Bok" :!:
I thought it was an authentic portuguese restaurant!
(actually of course I didn't, but during a choir tour to Lisbon, I was kinda disappointed to discover that the portugese diet consists entirely of grilled fish, without a peri-peri chicken for miles).

Major downer!!! I love my spicy chicken fix!! I'd starve except for maybe a liquid diet as I am partial to a good drop of Port!!

Ok tonight's the first dining out day I am acing since diagnoses.

I thinking am gonna have:

Starters - pate, no toast, unless brown/whole, will have a little bit.

Main - some kinda fish, they are doing seabass special with veg etc.

Desert - cheeseboard, no crackers, unless thin looking and not white. (I will miss a nice pudding, but he ho, I like cheese)

Does that sound ok?
