Eating & TMJd

Thought this would be the best place for this thread.

Does anyone else have TMJ disorder and have problems with finding sensible meals that arent sky high in carbs?

Since being diagnosed with T2 I've been struggling with eating decent low carb meals that arent going to kill the muscles in my face, salads and crunchy veg (which is my preference) every day is causing me agony. Prior to diagnosis I would just have some soft food i.e spaghetti carbonara, a takeaway curry from the supermarket but I dont have that option now. Normally I would be told to eat / drink soup but doing that for anything from 2 weeks to a month or longer til things settle down is not really an option, plus you just get sick of soup

So I'm asking if anyone else has TMJd, what do you eat?

I have it too, a constant ache in my jaw like I need a tooth out, I only find it hurts if I chew things like Jerky or tough meat, so it sounds like yours is a lot worse than mine, I was diagnosed when I was told I needed a tooth out by my dentist, got to the clinic and was told I didnt, but the consultant had the same thing. This is probably a silly question but do you take pain meds for it? Im sorry I cant help.

Just a thought but what about shredding or grating the hard veg into a salad, so its not so hard.

Tiny, i'm sorry to hear that you too have this wonderful problem. I think more people suffer from problems with their jaw and the areas around it than is realised.

I get what your saying about grating and its a great idea for when my masseter muscle isnt in spasm and i'm trying to keep things pain free but its the overall mechanics of chewing that causes the pain when the problem flares up. If I enjoyed mushy veg (tends to induce my gag reflex lol ) it wouldnt be such a problem as I could just chew the remainder of the chewiness with my tongue. For instance soft fruits like raspberries and properly ripened strawberries are ideal in this situation because i can eat them with my tongue and why the likes of spaghetti and rice are ideal, chop up the spag and swallow.

I found a few recipes last night after having a good look at lowcarb cookbooks I have; "hearty" soups which feature mince seem to be pretty abundant and not something I would have ever thought about. And it seems like cauliflower is going to feature heavily in my diet over the next week or two

Thanks again though for the suggestion.
