Hi, In a recent post, I wrote that I have a mission to help educate my support team. I wrote that I had a meeting with my GP today to discuss my progress,
I have to report that the meeting went very well. My GP now fully supports my LCHF diet, and is very pleased with the results I had acheived since I last saw him.
His first reaction was to affirm that he will continue to support my self monitoring, since it was obviously a game changer in my treatment. I did not have to ask him, prompt him, or cajole him - it was offered immediately. What a welcome change. He then agreed to reducing my Gliclazide dose, but offered to give me some as a standby in case I need to use after high carb mistake.
And finally we had a discussion about statins. There was slight resistance at first because my total cholesterol figure was substantially higher than 6 months ago. When I pointed out that this 6 months was the time I had stopped taking the statin he prescribed, and that the rise in cholesterol was only 0.1 mmol, then I had no further problems, and the statins have both gone. We will review in 6 months time, to see if LCHF really does help in this department. My GP has heard of the ASCOT trial, and I showed him some of my findings which surprised him since he had believed that the report had come cast in tablets of stone.
The rest of my results had all moved in the right direction, so it was a good meeting. I even felt the tuning fork this time !
He also supports my experiments with Bitter Melon after he saw the graph I drew from my logs which shows how it appears to draw all 4 daily readings together at almost the same value instead of fluctuating like they used to. it calms them down.
Although my GP was supportive last time we met, there was an increased enthusiasm that I had not seen before, and I think he is suitably impressed. Now, I have achieved much for myself that had seemed impossible before, but I still have a way to go, and much to learn. Next HbA1c is due end of March for the DCN, who is already fairly clued up from my last meeting with her. Success.
