This week I have been on the course recommended by the local NHS which covers dietary and podiatry stuff. Some good stuff from the Spec Diabetes Nurse, although I did think that loads of it was toeing the party line and the Nutritionist gave some interesting info. However he did bang on about carbs, and that in no way should anyone with diabetes go for low carbs as it plays havoc with the system. I challenged this (kind of) and asked why so many people have success with a low carb diet. He then said that everyone is different, to which I replied that his info on carbs may not work for everyone.

There was some decent info on different kinds of foods and ways to get nutrition.

I was surprised that at 52, I was the youngest on the course.

Well, the nutritionist was talking rubbish as you suspected. There is no evidence that low carb plays havoc with the system and as many of us know it does the opposite. Many become T2 later in life as so I guess it's not too surprising that there were many older than you on the course

Im booked in for one in March, very excitied lol, I was given the appointment shortly after diagnosis in October. I queried at the time that 6 months on I might have an idea of what im doing and might have needed the information sooner??? Looks like I will also be challenging them too as im a low carb convert. Hope you got some good info from the session, seriously I will attend with an open mind. Im 50 wonder if ill also be the youngest, do you think younger people just don't attend??

Could be younger people have to go to work and have trouble booking the time off.

I've been sent a letter inviting me to book myself onto a Desmond course. However, I always get through to the voice mail.
"If you don't book a place within 4 weeks we shall remove you from the waiting list".
Sometimes, I can become a very grumpy old geezer.
