Hi,

I was diagnosed last May, my doctor just gave me my medication and I was left to get on with it. My blood sugars are very rarely under 10 and I have had to live with thrush for the last year, I have been to the hospital several times and levels have reached over 25 and all my GP did was increase my metformin to the highest possible dose.

I have since moved doctors and went last week for my blood tests, the results have come back and I have raised electolytes and have been sent for urgent blood tests.

My question is should I be worried, has anyone else experienced the same??

Hi Trakkypat

Welcome to the forum. We will always do our best to help you. Here is a good article about electrolytes: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/153188.php I hope you find it helpful. They will need to determine why you have an imbalance. The high blood sugars and the electrolyte imbalance may be contributing to your thrush but the thrush needs to be tackled in any case.

With blood sugars at the levels you mention you may need to look at your diet and would, in my view, need to be considered for an additional diabetes medication.

Have you got your medical exemption card?

Take care

Doug

Hi Trekkypat and welcome.

Regarding BG control many of us here have found that reducing carbs have been the most effective method to reduce our blood glucose levels, this means reducing or cutting out starchy carbs (bread, potato, rice, pasta etc) from our foods. Many of us have achieved good BG levels by this method.

There is a low carb section in the forum where you can find information on this, and you can ask questions at any time.
