Elvis Presley

Re: Elvis Presely

I thought I knew this, but Googled to be sure. He had type 1.

I don't know about type 1s and what they have to do to keep control but wasn't Elvis famous for fried banana and peanut butter sandwiches!!! Wow that must have sent him off the chart. He ate hamburgers and fries by the cartload apparently. No wonder he got ill do you think the illnesses he had in later life were to do with diabetes?

I looked again, and I take back what I said. Some places say 1, others 2. He certainly did eat the worst food!

Certainly wouldn't have done him any good! :(

Hearing Elvis's death is one of those times in life where you remember what you were doing, I first heard it on Radio Luxembourg lying in bed.

Yeh, Elvis didn't mean much to me, but remember was a kid and Mum's friend came over crying and wailing. They were drinking tea and commiserating over Elvis's death - really upset like when a close friend dies. It really stuck in my mind. Not something you can understand as a kid, but remember it like it was yesterday.

Had no idea he was diabetic tho!

Sadly I'm old enough to remember it well, the out-pouring of grief at the time was extraordinary and the airwaves were filled with the King's hits, the down-side was we had to endure his films being repeated on TV

Elvis did refer to his diabetic diet in his song "A Cane And A High-Starch Collar".

And the chorus of the song reveals the effect it had on his blood sugars: "Hi-lo-do-si-dosy-do".

:shifty:
