Hi again,
I haven't been on the forum for a couple of months, so here's an update.
Well after struggling through Christmas and a very depressing Scottish winter, I've got mixed progress to report.
* The battle with my weight continues. After getting down to 110.6 kg in September, I was 114.0 at my review on 31st January (I'm 58). Could have been a lot worse and reflects periods of control interspersed with falling off the wagon too often. I'm not too downhearted by this and back on course again as this is a marathon rather than a sprint. Aim is to be back at 110 kg by the end of March and hit 97kg this year.
* BP is still better than it was at 134/82 but I am aware (as I self test) that this result is at the low end of where I'm normally sitting.
* Fasting BG levels continue to defy logic and I've therefore being doing a lot less of them. My view is that my body is too variable overnight to produce much useful information from this test. It varies quite a bit and is more dependant on when I measure in the morning (no set routine) than what I've been eating the day before. Also, after any prolonged lapse, it takes about a week to come back down. Levels vary from a high of 8.4 down to a more common 7.4 or so with only the occassional under 7 being recorded.
* My two hour control, on the other hand has generally been in the 7.5 to 8.5 range, and occassionally lower, although this is a little bit misleading as I tend not to test if I've fallen off the wagon.
* I was a bit worried about my review after the Christmas binge and a poorly controlled beginning to January and was very pleased that it was reported as 6.2 (44). To me, this is the key result as it's the one that keeps the doctor off my back and proves that I'm controlling my bg for the majority of the time.
My aim now is to concentrate on getting my weight a bit lower, continue my exercise regime (gym three times a week) and achieve more consistent control over my bg levels. I'm not low carbing (as I understand it from others on here) but I have reduced my carbs to between 150g and 200g a day on a 1800 calorie base.
Lastly, I haven't yet changed my doctor or surgery as I've not plucked up the courage yet to try to "interview" another doctor but , long term, I'll have to do this as I now have a view that my doctor and I will never agree on how to manage my T2.
