Septemer 2010 I was diagnosed as Type 2. Fear, worry and confusion set in but thanks in part to the excellent support and advice from this Forum I took matters firmly into my own hands and have been very pro-active in managing my condition. It is hard work, time consuming and challenging but it is me who is diabetic and me who has to sort my future out.

Went for my first 3 month HbA1c tests earlier in the week and the results were as follows but first off let me say that I went on an immediate diet way back in September when I was a hefty 107 kgs and today weighed in at 91kg. Much of the good results now seen are due to this weight loss. Add to that the 2 daily metformin and nightly statin too.

Sept my Blood pressure was 160/100
Sept my Cholesterol was 8.7

Today my results were as follows:
Cholesterol 5.1
Blood Pressure 90/138
HbA1c 5.9
Triglc. 1.4
LDL 2.4
HDL 2.1

I can only encourage others to keep up the momentum - for sure I still have a way to go but I am hugely encouraged.

Thanks to this forum for their excellent advice and support.

Well done, excellent results there.

I have been given no info at all from my doctors or DN regarding diabetes, not even a leaflet, so all of the knowledge I have gained is from this site, and my sugars are doing well now and I have good control. It isnt easy, but its better than letting this disease slowly kill me.

Knowledge is power so keep learning and keep well.

Excellent work and in such a short time!

Just one thing, is the bp measurement meant to read 138/90? if so that is a big improvement but you still need to get the lower figure down below 80, but nonetheless its coming down and that's the main thing.

Had my second three monthly assessment and results today.

HbA1c - now 5.3
Serum cholesterol 5.0
BP - 110/70
Triglc - 1.1
LDL - 2.2

Lost in total 26 kgs since September when diagnosed so I believe I'm doing something right !

Just didnt feel 'right' - i didnt get any of the more classic symptoms such as a gasping thirst and up during the night to wee. Needless to say it was a shock but a shock which led me to take a grasp of matters and do something about it. I have found being pro-active with the condition has really helped me firstly lose weight and then pound my poor GP regularly with questions and making sure I was on the right tracks.
