I am going for my first appointment on Wednesday was diagnosed five months ago and I am nervous about this any information would be welcome Terri

Maybe a bit more information? What is the reason for the visit to an endocrinologist? It isn't usual for a T2 to have such an appointment without a particular reason.

Oh sorry I live in Ireland was diagnosed by my Gp so at least every 12 to 18 Kris you see the consultant

OK. I wasn't aware of that. I have no experience of endocrinologists so I'm afraid I can't help you. Perhaps Google can?

That's totally different from the UK process, I googled questions to ask your endocrinologist and lots of information came up.

Hi,

I see an English endo for 'other stuff' (prolactinoma and PCOS) although the subject of T2 has come up a few times. ;)
Don't know how things will differ where you live, but will describe what happens for me :)

I try to arrive early, because parking is a nightmare.
Then I walk in and sign in, producing the letter they sent me as proof of ID and proof that I have an appt.
They tell me to sit down.
Then a nurse comes and calls me for the weighing and blood pressure testing.
Then I go and sit down in the waiting area again.
Then the consultant/registrar comes and calls me for my appt (it is rarely the same person twice. I have annual appts)
He has obviously spent a couple of minutes reviewing my file, and he asks me how I have been.
He reviews my blood test results, asks if I have any issues, and answers any questions I may have.
He may adjust my medication, check on symptoms, etc.
He writes out a request for blood tests, which I am to keep until a few weeks prior to my next appt (since my appointments are once a year, I hang onto the request form for about 11 months). At that point I go to my docs and ask for blood to be drawn. The results are then sent to the doc and the endo, ready for the next appointment.

It is all pretty formulaic and routine, but I usually get some useful info out of our chat, and I feel very reassured that someone with an understanding of my metabolic peculiarities is checking in on me once a year or so.

Not sure how this differs from seeing an endo for just diabetes, but hopefully it will give you a rough idea. :)

Thank you for that it doesn't sound much different than a doctor's appointment except his specialities include diabetes

As I'm on insulin so I go every 6 months.

Basically same a B. Standard questions and answers. I have very tight control of my bs so not a ton to do. He does give me a slight physical which involves testing my feet and thyroid as well as looking at my tummy. He does an A1C and I have the results before I leave. He orders any blood work I want such as Vitamin D and generally includes a basic metabolic panel every other appt to check kidney function. Nothing out of the ordinary. He asks about bs of course ( as my meter is not down loadable) but my A1C has been 5.1 for the last two years so he asks about lows. I don't hypo as I take very small doses. That's about it. Just routine.
