Well recently been to the docs about my diabetes and tried for a CGM continues glucose monitor, put it blunt costs alot to buy and mantain and he kindly said that i good try it for a week as its not funded by the NHS. A week wow nearly told him not to bother but he seems a nice guy just aint got a clue where iam coming from. Ok there may be alot of good diabetics with perfect HBA1Cs and might try and say that would it really make a difference. Ive always had great control apart from the last couple years and even if my sugars where ok id still want one. I know it has a lag etc etc but it still gives you a rough idea what your body is doing. It seems you have to fight tooth and nail to get anywhere in these times. My personal opinion is diabetes is half controlling with tablets insulin diet and think the other half is phycological. What i mean by that is for me after a while you gradually lose confidence you can try everything and just when you think youve got it.. bang it all goes over the place again and you think here we go again what have i done wrong this time, and after a while you start to give up a little more. Then your body starts to change a bit more, and you may feel ok and even more confident with that slighty higher sugar level just so you dont go hypo. Been there alot of times and dont think iam the only one. Doctors nurses etc can spell it out black and white what you should do what to eat etc but every single diabetic is that bit different with different metablisms execise routines different eating habbits etc how certain insulins react. So you can have all the facts in the world but without the confidence to put it into practice whats the point??? would it be alot easier in the short term to have that higher sugar feel ok and dont have hypos ummm i wonder. For some people they could just be geting on top of it and one bad hypo or frequent hypos and you can easily lose confidence, and the mentallity sets in id prefer to be abit high in the short term so i dont have hypos etc when out or doing something. The problem is that mentallity soon turns to long term then the problems kick in. Iam not saying a CGM is a cure but lets have the facts if a device that can give me a rough idea what my sugars are doing thoughout the day, alert me to a potential hypo so i can catch it before it gets too severe, if it can show me the trends of what foods do, if it can alert me to when sugars going to high, if it gives me the confidence to be out and about and know roughly where my sugars are, if it gives me confidence in adjusting my insulin slighty to get better control and not worrying too much about the hypos as iam able to catch them earlier, If it saves me testing alot of times just for the sake of it because iam not to sure where my sugars are at then YES i want one. Cost should not come into it. Ive seen some of the stastics for diabetes care and they dont look too good. Ok it might be expensive but surely the more diabetics use them the cheaper it will be. Spose to be around £1000 or so for device and a guess £2000 a year to run iam not sure. Seems expensive but i feel could give alot of diabetics a huge boost in confidence to take control over the condition. Not funded suprise suprise but if it was and did actually improve alot of diabetics life it would be alot more cost effective in long term. Sorry for ranting on but i really want one and shouldnt have to beg. so maybe 3k to run a year but lets have this right ive read some where it costs 38k per year to keep someone whos broke the law in prison. So in my eyes and not asking alot, but dont worry last night had a dream about grabbing a bull by its horns and thats exactly what i plan to ha ha rant over.
