That sounds very familiar, exactly what happened to me with Rosiglitazone only my GP decided I was getting too anxious and prescribed Citilapram, so I was getting fatter and fatter and didn't care. If you look at my message thread about metformin and LC diet, you will see that several people have managed for a number of years. When people say it's unsustainable, what evidence do they have? Carbs are used for energy but if one is carrying a few extra pounds, that's what we want to be used for energy, rather than anything we stuff in our faces, sorry, I mean eat. The major thing about low carb is that it actually helps to keep cholesterol down, I'm not the only one who has experienced that, I have noted several others on this forum mentioning the same. Even weirder in my case is that although I had never increased my fat intake so I've been doing the low carb low fat diet I was encouraged to eat more fat by my GP to increase my calorie intake, so last year I did. My weight increased by 11 kgs and my HbA1c wasn't great for the first time in 4 years. Strangely my total cholesterol dropped from 5.4 to 4. The whole thing with cholesterol isn't as straight forward as you'd expect. Twenty years ago my TC was 7 and even with statins it only went down to 5.4, low carb made it go down to 3.? and dropping statins saw it go back to 5.4 and now it's down to 4. The good news is that after some extensive tests done because some batty US doctor said I was having a heart attack (I wasn't) I know that my blood vessels are all in good nick and no signs of atherosclerosis. They obviously don't care that you have changed your life style to help you manage diabetes, something that they do not have to contend with by the sounds of it. You are diabetic and eat accordingly. Ask them what their cholesterol levels are like, I bet they're nowhere as good as yours. BTW don't panic about a 1 kg weight gain just yet, that's only 2 pints of water and/or a slowed down intestinal transit time, it's not fat.
