One of the things mentioned when I was diagnosed a couple of weeks ago was regular exercise.
Does anybody think it would be a good idea to join a gym.
I work fulltime and also run a Karaoke at the weekends which takes up a lot of my time. So I thought a gym would be a good idea as I should be able to get professional advice about what forms of exercise would work the best in my case.
Also has anybody ever heard of a discount scheme for taking exercise on doctors orders?
Worth a try :0)

This is the point where I wish I could think of something clever and witty.

Try a Council run operation. In East Lothian all of the swimming pools also have a Health Suite - gym, sauna and steam room and in some a jacuzzi. They offer monthly subscriptions that vary depending on which facilities you want to sign up for and what time of the day you wish to use them. Going for anytime access for all facilities is about £35. per month. At the other end of the scale, someone over 60 can use all the facilities between 10:00 and 16:00 Monday to Friday and Saturday/Sunday 12:00 till 16:00 for £14. per month.

I had a quick look at http://www.runsweet.com : quite interesting especially if on insulin.

I live and work in Inverclyde. The council run Inveractive - a discount fitness/gym scheme for three months if referred by one's GP. My GP is just accross the boundary and has never heard of it.

Marty,

That link looks really useful. I have added it to the Useful Links for Diabetics sticky.
