Hi, Iam a type 1 and do cycling for excercise . I will shortly be doin a 112 mile cycle around the ring of Kerry in Ireland and was wondering what would be the best foods to eat before and during this cycle ? I hope to complete the cycle in 9 hours with a few short breaks inbetween .

Wow! That's fantastic.

I have not much idea as it's trial and error for me and I've been exercising overall in group environment.

I managed 20 miles on my exercise bike mind  on some Jelly babies but you're doing a far far longer stint

A website called runsweet.com may help. I joined SportyDiabetics on Facebook which was recently recommended by a forum member. What kind of things have you been eating during training?

Well done you! I cycle a lot too (although I do 80 miles rather than 112!). I usually have porridge or something an hour or two before I set off. Banana or two one route. I also take lucozades and isotonic drinks with me to keep my sugars up and give me the energy I need! After cycling I'll usually have quite a carb heavy meal, otherwise I find my sugars drop.

Anyway, best of luck with your cycle! X

Done the cycle . Ass is sore alright . Eat the porridge beforehand and was good . Had bananas and brown read sandwiches during no problems . Thanks

Well done Ciaranirish
