Excessive burping when hungry

Hi All.

Does anyone suffer from excessive burping.

Diagnosed as Type 2 four and half years ago.
Put on metformin, then came off them after a couple of months, & have been managing it for Four years without much issue.
Early on, i did experience some Hypos, & over a month or so, discovered how to stop them with varying foods.
Not had a hypo in 4 years.

BUT, this last two weeks, feels like i'm constantly in & out of hypos, (not tested), but i know the feeling.
Shaking, weak arms, legs etc.

BUT i'm also getting a LOT of excessive burping , i've read something called Gastroparesis & its a typical symptom associated with type 1, not type 2.
I've lost a lot of weight recently despite eating pretty well, could it be a sign of type 1 i'm heading into.

You don't "head into" TYpe 1 from type 2. They are completely different conditions. Type 1 is an autoimmune condition and, whilst gastroparesis is associated with Type1, many of us "only" have Type 1.

Furthermore, Type 1 only experience hypos when we have taken too much insulin. Without insulin, our levels go too high, not too low.

I recommend taking your blood glucose meters with you and testing when you get your "hypo like symptoms to confirm your levels - it may have nothing to do with diabetes - and seek medical attention.
I am not a doctor but it does not sound like Type 1 to me but sounds like something to be investigated.

thank you, i did test in the early days & they were under 4.0, so i know how they felt.

I was getting the hypos in the early days , when on the metformin, so we agreed to come off them & i never had one since.

not tested recently, but having a check with the doctor next week

If your levels have been creeping up untested, a lower than usual but still above 4 mmol/l can feel like a hypo - this is a "false hypo".

Incidentally, I have found that I am more insulin sensitive since my covid jab. Have you had your vaccine or booster recently?

Thank you , i'm aware of false hypos. I've had both jabs, March & May, so it's a reaction to that, not had the booster yet though. I've lost a lot of weight though & eating quite a lot, so something isn't right.

Does becoming more insulin sensitive help you then since the booster ?

With Type 1, increased insulin sensitivity means I need to take less insulin. But there is a lot of trial and error involved to work out how much less. In the meantime, I was having quite a few hypos ... hence my reason for mentioning it.
It is not any easier - I still have to count my carbs and calculate my insulin dose so I don't think of it as a help.

one thing i forgot to mention in my diet the last few weeks since suddenly feeling weak , is that i have
cut out alcohol altogether, that's the only change in diet.
I've had alcohol most nights in moderation over the last four years with no effects, so i don't know if cutting alcohol out altogether is contributing in some way, it may explain the weight loss, but shouldn't affect me losing muscle mass so quickly.

Thoughts ?
