Hi, I am a new member, and this is my first post.
My son has contracted type 1 diabetes whilst at university.
This was diagnosed 11 months ago, but he is now finding that he is very tired and sleeps for 15-18 hours at a stretch!
This is affecting his studies, and, since we are a number of miles away from him, we are feeling rather anxious.
Is this type of thing normal, or do we need to be so worried?

Hi, Feeling exhausted is a symptom of high blood glucose, how is your sons diabetes management? Is he testing regularly? Adjusting his insulin correctly and eating well? Whatever the reason for his extreme tiredness he would be sensible to seek medical advice, feeling exhausted isn't pleasant at any time of life, it must be playing havoc with his studies and his social life. I would urge him to see his doctor. Hope he starts to feel better soon x

I would definitely ask the doctor to check for Vitamin D deficiency as it can mimic the symptoms of chronic fatigue.

Just eating breakfast used to exhaust me so much that I would go straight back to bed afterwards. Once I was diagnosed with the Vitamin D deficiency and started supplementation, the difference in my energy levels was absolutely amazing. Vitamin D deficiency is very common, even here in sunny Australia.
