Something I've come across as my time as a type1. I really don't think enough emphasis is put on exercising to help manage our disease. I'm on my off season at the moment so I'm doing heaps of running and soon to be back in the gym to tone up. I've noticed my levels are excellent when I exercise and can notice the difference when I'm not exercising. I'm planning on on putting on a bit more muscle mass over the next couple of months not just for my sport but also for my diabetes management. It's proven that weight training(building muscle mass...this doesn't have to be ridiculous muscle building but just toning up) improves insulin sensitivity and will improve your BG management. I always wonder why healthcare professionals don't talk more about the importance and benefit of this type of exercise for diabetes management plus it's releases those feel good endorphins so you feel great which is another great tool in diabetes management.

Anybody have any thoughts/experiences on this?

Hey!
I'm looking forward to getting back into some proper exercise. I used to snowboard, swim, run, cycle and generally a lot of sporty stuff. I was diagnosed with Type 1 during pregnancy so I had reduced the exercise to swimming and lots of walking anyway. Since my son was born 9 months ago I have done lots of walking but no proper work outs. I plan to ease myself back into it and will see what happens with my blood sugars.

Definatley a big help, sometimes because of exercise can bolus 20~50% less insulin depending on type and duration of exercise. Also as well as toning obviously burning calories as well. Exercise a big help in control/weight, as well as the release of those happy endorphins :)
