Hi everyone I was just looking for some advice, I have started to do exercise in the evenings about 4/5 o'clock it's quite a high intensity workout and by 10 o'clock at night my BG is out of the roof I can go from being 7.0 to 17.0. I am on the omnipod pump by the way, At first I thought I was miscalculating my carbs but I think it might be to do with the exercise.

Can anyone give my any help or advice as my DSN is away on holiday at the mo so don't know who else to ask!

Generally, high intensity exercise will push BGs up. High intensity exercise causes your body to produce the hormones adrenaline and cortisol (the latter a stress hormone), both of which cause an increase in BGs.

Two things you can do:

1. Log the activity and your before and after BGs then next time you do the exercise, inject insulin. You will be more insulin sensitive during exercise so inject about half the insulin you normally would.

2. Opt for lower intensity exercise, that will require glucose intake and not insulin.
