I became a T2 case a year ago (Im 45) and when I was diagnosed my readings were 19-30 - I had Ketones - could barely see and had neuropathic feets and hands. I was hospitalised for 10 days to get my readings down. When I left the hospital I was 6 on an average and I could see again and ketones were gone. My dosis was set to 12 UNITS 24 hour insulin and 3 Metformin tablets per day.

Throughout this first year I have been determined to "kill" my daily Pharma-dosis while stopped eating my beloved chocolate bars and drinking the overall amazing sugar drinks - normally available to my sweet toth every hour.

I exercise 20 mins per day on a stepmachine and I live a stressless life as well as I have now lost 14 kilos and my neuropathy is gone.

I have changed to take Alpha Lipoic tablets daily and my readings are on an average 5.6 - BUT- BUT - Im off the medicine (!) - so far only having to sink 1 (!!!!) - and I repeat 1 - Metformin tablet per day - after dinner.....

Now how can this be?

I think its because Im turning back time - I eat normally - have not changed my life style much - but by exercising and loosing weight in particular, I believe that Im taking my system back to how it was before getting hit by this decease some 11 years ago my doctor says. While not eating sugar apart from whats in my food Im not stressing the system too much and by exercising I have somehow change my metobolism to keep the body at a burning level that helps cutting tablets. But first by loosing weight - maybe in coordination with the Alpha Lipoic tablets - came the significant changes in my medicine intake.

So guys get going! Loose weight and exercise! I assure you, you will not be disappointed.....

Hi Kim

You have really ignited my interest. I had a similar road as you but was diagnosed type 1
They put me on NOVOMIX 30 - 24 units in morning and 14 in evening.
Now I am on an amazing 8 units in morning and 6 in evening.
The back of my mind is asking - am I type 2.

I'm exercising a lot more and have a better diet, since being diagnosed.

I must research Alpha Lipoic.
