Exercise what do you do?

been type 2 and the fact i get no sodding help from the NHS at all
hi

as i work in IT and am usually glued to my desk all day and most of night i was wandering what exercise you guys do. since i was diagnosed i try to do a minimum of 30 mins of fast walking per day. and on weekends i will go out for the day and walk for most of the day.

what do you guys do? is what im doing enough? do you think
 
Enough for what? If its BG your trying to affect then you need to do comparison tests. Not an foreign concept to an IT guy eh? However 30 mins a day of brisk walk is a good for basic better health. I try to do more than that but I'm retired so time rich☺

good point. really to loose weight and control BG which is generally not that bad anyway. i just started the LCHF diet so hoping this with the walking will shift the weight
 
Swimming and running are the main ones for me. I do work for myself though so I can fiddle the time easier.

Walking is good, no doubt about it, its just a bit time consuming. The advantages are that its low impact an is just generally good for you. Swimming is probably as gentle on the body too but as you say not necessarily convenient. You can walk wherever, whenever and without special kit. Go for it.

Walking is good and free
Coming from a very unfit point in my life walking was the start for me.

Gradually longer and faster. Walking the just shy of 4 miles to work was the goal. Took a few months but I got it to under an hour. Then swimming as the pool opens at 7am. Then I did a parkrun just to see if I could do it. Manchester Marathon in April (stupid idea).
 
it is and i find that im in a hurry to get back to the bloody office the moment i get up and walk off. maybe lob the i phone in a lake lol

I have a cheap stationary bike, Can do HIIT on it using a clock, think I saw it on youtube, but you can set it for different seconds.
 
ive got a bike but the weather really puts me off going out lol. but i dont mind walking. when i have lost more weight and less ashamed of my body ill try to get to a swimming pool
 
I walk, cycle, row, kayak and do weightraining too, however I am semi retired now so have time to do what I want. Never felt better though so if you can do more I recommend it, you can't really do too much.

get you i walk cycle row and kayak lol well done to you mate. inspiring actually. i think i need to think further afield in my ideas
 
I walk to/from work everyday (about 5 miles all together). Running is the best though. It doesnt take much time and you get better very fast. Only first two weeks was a nightmare
 
i work 50 miles from home so a car is a must for me. altho i do wish i could walk to work
 
Like you, I started out walking. I now use the crosstrainer, treadmill, exercise bike, and as of yesterday did my first run in the real world (after dark, with my young dog for protection lol). I do about an hour a day, usually from 7pm to 8pm. Tried going to the gym but it bored me senseless and I don't like gym-folk, so I stick to using the equipment I have set up in my cold garage.
Build up to it slowly, and the more you do, the more you want to do!
 
I'm office bound most of the day. While I live 12 miles from work I don't fancy walking that far. Try to avoid the easy lifts, and use the stairs if you can. It does make a difference.

Thats so true, I used to be extremely active until around 10 years ago but I let work get in the way and lost all my fitness pretty much, I now do even more than I used to and I love every minute of it.

I don't much like gyms either, I have my rower and my squat cage and weights at home, but I really prefer to be outside on my bike or kayak (roll on summer) and I'm seriously considering going hillwalking and climbing again.
