I have just start some intense exercise, I am training to compete in a boxing match in April. I have not exercised in years and am currently doing 3 sessions a week of an hour and half at a time, comprising of boxing, shadow boxing cardo and upper body strength, with full body sparring. I was under the impression that exercise lowers suger levels however at the start of a session I am between 5-6.3 at the end running anywahere between 23-27, why is this and what can I do to sort it out! Any advice helpful

My understanding is that low intensity aerobic training lowers glucose levels while high intensity anaerobic exercise causes them to rise.

I know that a few of the people here go for intensive training, some are in training for marathons, so hopefully someone will be along soon to explain and advise better.

Good luck with the training and with the glycemic control.

Pavlosn is correct. One more thing though, competitive sport, aerobic or anaerobic will generally raise BG levels too. You should find though that these raised levels return to normal quicker than conventional spikes.
