Exercises

Re: Excersises

You don't say how mobile you are and exactly how fit you are at the moment, this is important because you can't just launch into a full scale exercise regime without some basic level of fitness.

I have settled on 2/3 bits of exercise per day.Every morning I run three miles for my paper before breakfast and every afternoon I walk the dog for one hour.Three times a week I swim 30 lengths in the middle of the day.On Sundays I have a treat:I run 4.5 miles while the family is still in bed. This is combined with a 2000 calory a day diet (no particular foods, just matching calories in with calories expended). Each piece of aerobic exercise should take at least 30 minutes and this will be sufficient to increase your basic rate of metabolic activity and reduce your glucose levels.

Initially I used the Newcastle diet to reduce my weight to an ideal 12 stone, which I have maintained over the past year.

In terms of my diabetes I have been off medication for 13 months and my latest Hb was 40.Fasting bloods are very consistent at an average of 5.5/5.6 and several doctors/consultants have claimed I am "in remission" from my diabetes.Following my latest review I have been sent off for another year to see how it goes. The most sensible comment recently was made by my diabetic nurse who says I will always have a propensity towards diabetes but if I maintain my diet and exercise regime there is no reason to believe I will need to go back on medication.

Good luck.
