Hi,

I've been type 1 for 3 months this month. I'm on MDI. I wanted to know is it normal to always be exhausted? I mean I have 8 hours sleep but I'm still drained. I don't feel human. I keep getting vertigo because of being exhausted. Please help. Thank you in advance , Nadine

There are several physical causes of exhaustion / tiredness / fatigue

  1. High blood sugar
  2. Vitamin D deficiency
  3. Vitamin B12 deficiency
  4. Iron deficiency anaemia
  5. Underactive Thyroid
  6. Depression.
  7. Stress
  8. Sleep Apnea

My average is 7.4.

I have depression from diagnoses. Should I ask my doctor to test me for vitamin d deficiency? Nadine

got no idea, you might need 10 hr sleep. 8hr is a population average
how is you night hypo going, have you sorted your basal?

I reduced my basal by one unit , so now taking 9 units of lantus in the morning and no night time hypos. I got my 30 day average today which was 7.4. I'm stoked about that! My exhaustion is just to much. I'm falling asleep standing up. The hot weather isn't helping. My DN told me to be very careful with being in the sun to long as it will cause me to hypo. I'm hypo unaware at times. Yesterday I went to 2.8 and didn't even know until I tested before my tea. Nadine

I read a discussion on here about a month ago, also about tiredness. Someone mentioned a Vit D deficiency, so I asked my doc to test me. I have just had a call to make an apt to see the GP as I do have a Vitamin D problem. So please get that checked out.

now that you aren't hypo a lot, your awareness will come back, try and stay above 5-6 for a while going by what's said on this site. spiker or Robert are cluey and frequent posters and very helpful, send them a joint message and they will help you sort it out, messages are called conversations here

I've just called them I'm booked in next week! I'm a dispenser so I will be looking into buying these also. I used to live in Australia so my vit D might be low x

Thank you jack! I will be messaging them. All the help I can get is very much appreciated ❤️xx

3 months in it's understandable your exhausted as it takes time for the body to fully recover from the stress and shock of being diagnosed, there' really is so much to take post-diagnosis and, what with you holding down a full-time job it isn't any wonder why your running on empty, I would book an appointment to see your diabetes consultant or dsn and discuss your tiredness and depression.
