I'm going down to Cornwall for an extended and much needed break, i've tidied up a lot of loose ends here in Manchester and decided to give it a go in the Cornish Riviera, not sure what to expect I have an old time friend there who is putting me up, i'm really looking forward to it and at the same time a bit apprehensive as i have got into a routine that suits me and my bgs. The only thing i'm not sure about, whether i stay there or not, is what do i do about transferring my GP as it may or may not be permanent but i will need to get insulin prescriptions and bg test strips etc. Can i get temporary GP access for scripts? I also have an eye exam for some laser at the manchester royal eye hospital coming up next month but im not sure if i'll be back for it. I'd appreciate any advice.

Does your current GP surgery offer online repeat prescription requests via PatientAccess at Patient.co.uk ?

If so, you should be able to stick with your current GP surgery until you are certain of your plans.

I put in my repeat prescription request via Patient.co.uk and it gets sent by my surgery automatically to Pharmacy2U - and they then deliver my items to me the very next day. This saves having to pop to the chemist. Insulin is sent in special cooler bags and if I'm away from home I ask them to send to an alternative address and they do so without issue.

Thanks. I didn't know you could do that, sounds good, i don't think my GP is that advanced though ive never been told about it, i'll have a look into it.

My surgery in South Devon next door to where you're going is switching over to the national system which in practice means nothing works atm, either the local prescription renewal system online or the national one :( However, I've been told the email with the magic password will arrive any day and then I must browse the site to see what's available (I.e.they don't know.) It's one of the charms of living here. You'll be fine in wonderful Cornwall. Just remember it's NOT Manchester ;)
PS If you've watched Doc Martin on tv , the scenery is similar but the doctors aren't.

Roberts suggestion of temporary registration looks like a winner, for the early stages. I'd be really, really cautious of doing anything permanent before you're sure, and that would, for me anyway, certainly include your appointment for your laser work. I'm not incredibly clued up on retinopathy, but I would have thought looking for a new referral, in Cornwall, has the capacity to defer that intervention, which I know I, personally, wouldn't want to do. My sight is much more precious than the cost of a rail fare Cornwall/Manchester return.

Just my 2p worth.
