being a diabetic and finding restrictions.to life style. people who do not understand the problems one has. not being able to afford to come back to uk for holidays as often, quite expensive. miss some foods that the French do not do. but can live with that French drivers. who love to tail gate. and they love to drive over the white line. in rural areas they are a pain. but get use to it. does put the wind up you. But driving in the UK found that drivers want to get as close as they can. and the traffic. it took me 25 minutes to get to friends house which was less then a mile away. due to traffic.
Hi I have mentioned this before but today have been reading the benefits of using cold pressed extra virgin olive oil. I use this olive oil. I have a found a site that might interest others.

I was a little while ago looking at different olive oil extra virgin, and found this website. Since then have been only using this. Brilliant. find it is a good ,I wondered why others are not using it. as it helps with the diabetic
Does anyone else use it, I live in France, and found it on shelf. but at my local super market not easy to locate, so always get enough in. Tastes good. and for cooking very good.
the site is www. livestrong.com
They give lots of information why you should use the cold pressed olive oil.

Just thought that we all need to look elsewhere for ideas. and this is my best find.
Hope that you all like

I buy Hyper Us own brand extra vierge, extraite à froid. I don't have any problem locating it (and even the own brand has Italian ,Greek and 'bio' ie organic versions) There are many other makes.
When on holiday, I have sometimes bought olive oil from traditional mills but it's best as a flavouring, (and too expensive to cook with)

I get mine from Carrefour in France, not expensive, costs around 5 Euros in fact the other day got 3 bottles for the price of 2 cost 9 euros and as far as cooking would not use anything else, no dearer then the ordinary Extra Virgin
As said I live in France but know it is easy to buy in UK/ same here really, just wanted people to know there are benefits in using cold pressed

The Livestrong website is a good one. We just buy our Extra Virgin Olive Oil from Lidl or Aldi as they are the cheapest, they both came out on top of other more expensive brands in a recent newspaper article.

"It must be produced entirely by mechanical means without the use of any solvents, and under temperatures that will not degrade the oil (less than 86°F, 30°C)."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olive_oil
"Cold pressed or Cold extraction means "that the oil was not heated over a certain temperature (usually 80 °F (27 °C)) during processing, thus retaining more nutrients and undergoing less degradation"

So Extra Virgin and Cold Pressed seem to amount to the same thing.

Also
"
  • First cold pressed means "that the fruit of the olive was crushed exactly one time-i.e., the first press. The cold refers to the temperature range of the fruit at the time it is crushed".[35] In Calabria (Italy) the olives are collected in October. In regions like Tuscany or Liguria, the olives collected in November and ground often at night are too cold to be processed efficiently without heating. The paste is regularly heated above the environmental temperatures, which may be as low as 10–15 °C, to extract the oil efficiently with only physical means. Olives pressed in warm regions like Southern Italy or Northern Africa may be pressed at significantly higher temperatures although not heated. While it is important that the pressing temperatures be as low as possible (generally below 25 °C) there is no international reliable definition of "cold pressed".
Furthermore, there is no "second" press of virgin oil, so the term "first press" means only that the oil was produced in a press vs. other possible methods.
"

So more marketing than any difference in the oil.

Cheers
