....has anyone had the injections in the eyes to help stop the macular degeneration. If so what are the results and the costs as I understand these treatments are not available on the NHS.
Many thanks
Dave

I haven't had them personally but my mother in law had them a few years ago and my dad is in the middle of treatment - they both had theirs on the NHS but yes they are expensive so maybe its another postcode lottery thing!

Won't lie to you they both said that it is very unpleasant and my dad said his has hurt quite a bit on couple of occasions. But if it saves your sight its worth it

As to results - not sure about my MIL as we don't speak much but I think they gave her couple of extra years of sight, My dad has had about 6 injections - on his last app 2 weeks ago he didn't have to have his injection as it hadn't gotten any worse and was stable - hoping for the same this month

hope that helps

If you're talking about avastin, I had this privately at a cost of £800 for the injection  , this was for PDR but I believe it is also used in MD. Its still cheaper than Lucentis which is around double the cost. Then there is the cost of the consultation added on which will be around £200.

You can get it on the NhS but may have to jump through hoops/be judged seriously in need of it/have to wait a long time for it so if you want to avoid all that and can afford it, go private.

The injection itself wasn't pleasant but was over quickly enough, it was the iodine wash which stung my eyes for the next 12 hours which was the killer!

Here avastin cost only 100 dollars with procedure !!!
