Its a week now since hubby was diagnosed with Type 1, although that will be assessed again in about 5 weeks, as it was so sudden, funny how you priorities change..he woke this morning with a glucose level of 5.3 and we did a high five. One concern i have is his vision, his long sighted has improved but his short sighted is deteriorating very quickly, don't get me wrong, he can see fine, but he keeps pinching my glasses now. He has his first yearly MOT next Wednesday and that will include an eye test. Is it ok to wait till then ? Yes i know i am wrapping him in cotton wool at the moment ..thank in advance

Hi, please don't worry about eyesight changes as this does happen when first diagnosed. Things will settle down in a few weeks or more. Also do remember that eye sight does change as you get older thus needing reading glasses. This is not diabetes related. So don't panic :)

Thank you, i did read lots of threads about eye sight so i am not panicking, but its so good to get reassurance from everyone on here. :)

Yes, just to reaffirm what Carbsrok says.
I was in hospital for 10 days after diagnosis, once on insulin and my levels came down my sight changed dramatically. I could see for miles out of the window. It was quite surreal, I could have had a new career as a sniper. I couldn't though watch the television in my small room as it was just a blur.
It didn't take long for my sight to settle down again. Before I had diabetes I only really needed glasses for driving, it was the same afterwards though I actually ended up with a prescription slightly less 'strong' than before.
(nine plus years later and my near vision is beginning to deteriorate; but that is just age!)
