Every year I attend my T2 annual Review and nothing seems to be a problem with my feet or sight. My last review was a few months ago with a "pass"
I had an eye sight test with the Optician, again no problems, but for some weeks now my vision seems to be "misty" or a bit foggy, I went to a different Optician and reported my concern to him, he examined my eyes and told me I had two cataracts and wants to see me in six months. Has anyone else experiences this? I find it strange that my annual review did not pick this up or can cataracts appear rapid in the eyes?

I don't know much about cataracts, but if it turns out that they should have been noticed at your previous eye check, then you might want to make a formal complaint, to help others get better service in future. You could ask the optician who diagnosed it for more information about how cataracts are formed and what the prognosis is.

My elderly mother has been diagnosed with cataracts, about a year ago, and she still has no symptoms such as fogginess. Her eyesight is deteriorating faster than before, and every year she needs stronger glasses. She has been told that in a few years she will need surgery. She is getting towards 80 years old. It doesn't seem to be diabetes related, but if I were you I would want more information about what to expect in the future.

Recently I had my annual eye sight test, I was told everything was OK even though I complained of a definite change in my left eye.. however when home , I noticed a further change during reading a few letters kept clouding !!
As I believe you should always trust your instincts I pushed to be checked again !!! and sure enough there was a problem and I was sent to a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon who went on to diagnose the start of Diabetic Maculopathy in both eyes the left one being the worse would need treatment right away.... (Moral of the story is ...You know your body ..trust your instincts !!)

Sorry answering your question as a lay person I was also diagnosed as having the start of a cataract too but not to worry as was also told of no concern at present just keep an eye on it...

It's possible that if the test was just an eyesight test (visual acuity) and not a diabetes test (retinal photography) then they would not have seen the diabetic changes. It's important to get the retinal photography test done every year or more often if needed.

Actually the test I had was a retinal photography test...I have had 3 since then !! Starting Vitreo Retinal injections in 2 weeks ... (They tried laser first but it didn't work )

In that case, you might want to make a formal complaint, which can help other patients in future. Missing this diagnosis is a serious mistake and is not acceptable. It would be like ordering an HbAc test, getting a result of 110 and telling patient it was normal.
