Hi there

I need an eye test after recently being diagnosed with diabetes.

Do I need to have this done at the hospital or will a high street optician be able to do this?

Thank you.

Nick

If I’m understanding what you need correctly then yes your optician should be able to do this for you.

Thank you for the quick response.

I was only diagnosed on Tuesday so still trying to take it all in so your help is gratefully appreciated.

What sort of eye test do you need? If this is a retinopathy type test then you should get an invite from the NHS(assuming UK)

I think so but not heard from the hospital.

will hold off for now in that case and see what happens.

Thanks

Ah see if it’s retinopathy. I’m not sure what different clinics are doing in different parts of the country but they’ve been off in my area since the beginning of Lockdown.

If it’s an ordinary eye test, wait for a few weeks til you have more stable sugar levels. Otherwise the test will not be accurate, as pre diagnosis eyes tend to be affected.
