Fantasy "Diabetic Holiday "

walk barefoot on the beach any beach without worrying if i get a cut and maybe infection

I was diagnosed 3 weeks before going to spend several months living by the tropical seaside. I told the podiatrist my footwear when away is bare feet or flipflops at a push. She simply told me to take notice of any injuries, and cover any open wounds immediately, BUT that walking in the sand is absolutely the best thing for feet.

I took that as being a tick box approval.

New Zealand, with my son, eat beetroot til I'm purple and drink still lemonade, throw in some yoga and cycling perfect..
I love walking bare foot on the sand, and being diabetic isn't going to stop me.

I think I would want to eat my way around the world.

A slow trundle, country to country, eating every delicacy available. Endless variety. No worries about calories, carbs, nutrients or indigestion.

Freshly picked sun ripened mangosteen, buffalo mozzarella, soft shelled crabs, exquisite sushi, the ultimate doughnut, single estate choc, tawny port, retsina, definitely some of that haggis, fresh green lipped mussels, real pizza, gelato, the perfect cream tea, local salads, fermented yak milk... And a thousand others I have never heard of.

And in every place, soak up the atmosphere, then move on when ready.

Possibly back packing. Maybe driving. Maybe trains... Definitely hotels, not youth hostels though!

You've just reminded me, the thought of getting rid of all that dead skin, on a warm grainy sand.
There was one beautiful beach on gozo like that!

South India, I went back packing.. I also went vegetarian.. Honeymoon suite in a hill station hotel for the price of a B&B.... Mmmm yes, the slow train ride.. & the mad "coked up" taxi driver.. Lol I've even had a curry in Madras..

Since becoming insulin resistant I've changed my diet and stopped bingeing on naughty things in an effort to prevent Type 2 and when a moment of weakness appears I just think of diabetic complications and it stops me in my tracks. I have, however, wondered how I will cope with this new lifestyle on my next trip back home to the UK....

So this is what I would do ..... I would book somewhere nice to stay in the viccinity of a good Tesco or Sainsburys so I always had access to bags of Revels, Daime Bars, Caramac Chocolate, Rowntrees Fruit Pastilles, Fudge, Quavers, Crisps, Cheesy Wotsits, Pork Scratchings, Pork Pies, Treacle Toffee .... then for lunch I would enjoy some fish and chips which I would eat from the newspaper with lots of salt and vinegar. Afternoon Tea would include a Belgium Bun, a treacle tart, some battenburg cake and some of that nice madeira cake with cherries in it. Oh and some coffee walnut cake from marks and spencer. Oh and also some of that nice Tunis Cake that we used to enjoy on Boxing Day.

For dinner I would like an Irish Stew with dumplings like we used to have for school dinners (didn't get any dumplings though) with lots of spring greens (be rude not to) followed by a lovely treacle pudding and Ambrosia Devon Custard.

And that is all.

Just going to get myself some homemade berry jelly ... back to reality :-(

My fantasy holiday is to sail around the tropics with my husband, swim in the warm waters, no worrying about carbs---eat mangoes and chocolate ice cream and fudge brownie at every meal with no phone calls, no emails and no internet connection. Have a full body massage by the beachfront then have a dinner every night of seafood and local fare. Watch a rock concert at night, ride the motorbike whilst going round the island, lie on a hammock...aah, bliss!
