Fantasy "Diabetic Holiday "

In another thread, @fatgirl1965 said it would be wonderful if we could have a holiday from diabetes and all it involves, and it got me thinking....

Where would you go?

What would you like a holiday from in particular ? (Can be one thing or all)

What would you eat and drink?
(remember this is fantasy, so no weight gain or health repercussions !)

What would you do ?

Who would you go with ?

Me, I would go to Norway to trace my relatives who I've never met, leaving behind the HUGE bag of kit I heave about with insulin, meter, snacks, epipen, etc etc and have a "proper" handbag.

I would sleep as late as I like instead of having no chance of a lie in because I need to inject basal...

I would be able to do what the hell I liked without thinking of how it would affect my BG's

I would eat whatever I liked the look of

Not sure who I'd go with at this point !:D

That's just for starters, I'm sure I'd think of more !

To eat my way across the USA :cool:

tbh, just to get up and not inject or test would be a holiday in itself.
 
Oh to be bag free!! As for the holiday I would choose a remote Scottish Island and eat Haggis Neeps and Tatties to my hearts content washed down with a jug of Sangria, have a long lie in, in the morning then go for a hike up a very high hill, sit on the top and contemplate what a wonderful world.
 
I think I'm a bit weird .
Because I couldn't imagine my life with out my diabetes now , it's just part of the norm .
I'd feel really panicky not knowing what my bm was and eating with out injecting as that way of living is very alien .
So bit of a different view I guess haha or just not very imaginative lol !!!

As a T2, I don't have the problem with injecting, so I'd just eat my way across, heavy on the meat.

The guy in the show (Adam Richman) is a changed man, he was featured in the Mirror back in June and the article was saying he'd lost 30kg since he stopped filming Man v Food.
 
Could I have a holiday away from the tablets I have to take as well as the diabetes please???? I would go to my favourite Greek Island (Kefalonia) and just eat and drink what I want. Just not having to worry about what my BS might be would be wonderful.:)
 
I'd go on an 18 to 30's holiday as I never went when I was younger, the fact I'm nearly 20 years over the maximum age limit would be overlooked.

I'd go to foam parties without worrying my pump and sensor would get wet and the cannula would get ripped out, I'd waltz around in a bikini without worrying where to attach my pump, I'd go on pirate ship booze parties and not worry about whether the mixers were diet or full sugar, in fact I'd not have mixers and just have spirits. I 'd wake up at 3pm in the afternoon not having had to calibrate my pump and glucose sensor at 7am and fall in the swimming pool where I wouldn't have to look out for thieves stealing my bag with my pump in it.

I would however remain a vegetarian and use Factor 15 sun tan cream. Oh and I would be able to get travel insurance that didn't cost more than my holiday, happy days :)

I saw that article.
Now he just encourages others to do the same.
 
But to answer the original post.
I wouldn't.
I'm T2, so it's different for me.
Since I was diagnosed, I turned it around.
If I hadn't been diagnosed, I'd still be a couch potato, waiting to have a heart attack.
I've lost weight, I have good control, I'm doing stuff I couldn't do before, so I really wouldn't wish it hadn't happened to me.
If I want to, I'll eat the food, as I know what things do to me, so I'l mix and match to suit.
So, to be honest, out of the choices, being told I was T2 is a better thing than carrying on as I was.
Maybe it will shorten my life, maybe it won't, but I've had a wake up, and I intend to cram in what I only thought about before.
We should all do it.
Life really is too short.
 
I would spend a year in turkey eating Turkish delight of all flavours everyday

I've done that anyway with no repercussions... ;)

I did however sustain an injury when an old fishing net sliced my ankle whilst "dune jumping".

Fantasy holiday? Jump in a time machine & travel to AD 802,701'ish & enjoy all the low carb cuisine predicted to be on offer..?

I am enjoying this thread... I have been wracking my brains for about 10 mins thinking what I would do if not diabetic for the day....and aside from the obvious benefits of not needing to carry a small pharmacy around with me I really can't think of anything.... Maybe the last 17 years have just ground me into submission....

I took to wearing my dive boots on gozo, we all cut lumps out of our feet on the beaches (rocks) there.

As to the time machine, even the Egyptians processed grain, to you may have to head well into the BC era to 'sort the wheat from the chaff' as it were.

I've done Gozo too.. Your right about the rocks. I had sandals & a pair of those funny "ballet pump/jazz shoes" surfers wear...
I just felt the footwear looked a bit silly on a nudist beach on a Greek Island.. Something liberating about "skinny dipping"!! :p
