Prediabetes Fasting and blood results

I originally had BG around 18 when trekking in the States, discovered as I recognised symptoms including blurred vision. Have been fasting alternate days since January. Weight loss over 2 stone. Have a glucose meter and know which foods spike my sugar levels. Upped exercise to 5 days weekly and starting running again. Now up to 5k which I do once per week.

Question is this my HbAc gives a normal result but I am unsure the effect of fasting will have had on this result. I am not prepared to stop fasting at this stage as I believe weight loss is important at this stage and have another 2 stone to go. I have a repeat HbAc1 due in September. My early morning fasting BG levels remain elevated earless of wether I am eating that day or not. Confused.

If you don't put food into your mouth then your body must seek sustenance elsewhere and it does this by causing your liver to give out sugar. This is an essential act since if you had zero sugar in your blood you would die. When this happens it is treated like any other source of glucose and insulin will/will not appear as a catalyst to get that sugar into cells. Any insulin resistance you have will come into play just as if you had just eaten dinner. In a crude sense you are eating yourself. That's how you get thinner.

Getting thinner (if overweight) should be the priority and then worry about the Hba1c later. Or you could avoid total fasting and have tiny frequent harmless snacks on your days off in order to stave off the liver dumps. It's whatever works for you.

Many thanks. Yes I agree it makes more sense to lose weight first and worry about blood tests later. Will try your suggestion of harmless snacks on fast days to stave off liver dumps. I must admit I find it easier not eating at all on fast days but happy to investigate alternatives. The discussions no re: bread on here are interesting. I have no problem with our local sourdough mother as a starter providing we make the bread with either spelt or rye flour. Took quite a few experiments to get that far but I do so love a soldier with my boiled eggs.
