Fasting and severe fasting - meds or no meds ? T2

Ive been T2 now for like 7 years. Always well controlled. Now although still within the 'acceptable range 5.7 its creeping up. Years ago I had chronic sore throats for years not days or months. Then my T2 was discovered and meds given. Then sore throats mercifully went. I've seen the Dr this last 2 weeks twice as Ive had a low grade fever daily (now for 3 weeks. Blood work done for infection and urine showed no sign of infection. So he says 'virus' so here we go again...../sigh

More monthes of no one able to give me an answer! I think its because my T2 is going out of control. On vacation I got very sick. It was far too hot and I lost my appetite. Since coming back I determined to low carb myself back to health as much as possible. I have no appetite and am eating just because iI must take my Metformin. I have the best diet at home and this last 3 weeks having lost all the weight I put on on the first part of the vacation, I now have achieved the lowest weight since loosing 15 kilo's on diagnosis. In fact I am now lower and still trying to drop more weight. I'm 69 kilos, so I still have a way to go. But....my BG has not altered one bit! I'm not even eating fruit..or very little. The low grade fever still goes on as does the sore throat...and morning BG is still 7.8 which is too high. High morning sugar has always been an issue for me. I need some advice on 2 counts...

I guess the 'higher morning BG is because I dont sleep well. Or 'Dawn Phenomenon' ? But how to change this? For years I have had insomnia. Sometimes I take pills but I hate this and feel its asking for trouble in the future...

So...all this talk of fasting has made me wonder if that could be something for me to try to lower my BG. I am utterly sick of people trying to shove meds after meds at me. My body is severely chemically sensitive..IBS..stomach acid...as well as other issues. Drs see the answer to everything is in a pill. I dont want that! So maybe fasting a couple of days a week could be good. But on the 'broth or shake days...does one take Metformin or not? If not then surely the BG would creep up anyways because Metformin has a cumulative effect?.
What you would 'gain on the swings' surely you would 'loose on the roundabout' in terms of fasting versus missed meds...?

I know this isnt the clearest post...sorry everyone..I'm so tired of trying so hard and getting no place...no Dr's can or will say more than the simplest grunts and the east information. They push out what the drug companies push on them. Sometimes I wonder if its the drug companies that are n fact treating us with the Dr as the simpleton middle man!

I don't have any advice for you about fasting but I just wanted to say that I know how you feel about the doctors not listening or helping you - I'm in much the same place now and it's a damned hard battle!!

Sorry I don't have anything helpful to offer you; I just wanted to let you know that I'm thinking of you and hoping you find something that works for you soon. If you ever need to have a rant or anything please feel free to PM me.

That would be an excellent question to ask your doctor, wouldn't it? For example, in the Horizon episode on fasting they specifically said that it should only be done with medical supervision.

Having said that, you have to keep in mind how Metformin works - it reduces endogenous glucose production. Simply put, T2 diabetics produce too much glucose and Metformin fixes this to an extent. So, if I was in your position, and absolutely had to fast, then I would keep taking the Metformin.

You have to decide for yourself of course, but I am trying the partial fasting ie. light breakfast , bouilon only lunch and light dinner. I've been doing it for this week and so far it suits me.

Thanks everyone...my doctor said 'never take medication withouy food.' that was at the great clinic for 'newbies' later they dump you floating in and out of various Drs offices. No one one can build a relationship with :-(

I am doing very low carb and have drpped weight..also blood was today 6.7 which isnt bad at all. I think though if I ate more carbs then had two days on spirulina or super greens and maybe bulion..good ecological one. Added to the a very little blueberry powder or something. At least today I feel like am getting some place with 6.7 is better than 8 or 9. If I have no joy getting well by next week, I will go see a private Dr to consult with these issues. At least in UK you have continuity. In Sweden its one dr for diabetes and another for evrything else.! One doesnt see the whole person :-(

knowing others out there exist with this illness and have challenges and sometimes wins and sometimes looses makes things feel better. I interact with NO other Diabetics here except one od Japanese guy who I elp and encourage as he's a newbie. He was a smoker for 45 years and I got him to stop. He's been cigarette free now or more than 3 years. I have no idea how to personal message..would like to... Thanks for everyones kindness once agian.

Doesn't fasting make you feel Sick, headache etc?

Only if you have nothing but water.....if you have light broths and shakes then you shouldn't get headaches.
I think water only would be too extreme for a Diabetic and one would feel exhausted.
