Hi all,

I am having a struggle getting my fasting bloods down, last night at 11.00pm my BG was 5.4mmol before bed, just tested this morning 5.00am and upto 7.9mmol, this pattern keeps repeating, although in this case the night time reading was very good for me normally the pattern is around 8 mmol before bed and 8 to 9 mmol in the morning.

I am on 320mg of ziclazide per day and cannot take metformin or any other drug that resides in the liver with slow release.

47 male, BMI around 24, Type 2 diagnosed in May

Yesterdays carb intake was 110gms, and I last ate at 6.30pm.

I had a walk for excercise at 8.45pm.

Has anyone got any tips or tricks to help improve the morning BG, I have tried having a small snack an hour before bed but did not seem to make too much difference.

Many thanks

Mark

I have had some success in lowering my fasting readings and it seems to matter what you eat and when. I tried to not eat any carbs after 4pm and my fasting readings came down over a period of 4 days or so. The biggest drop was 0.5 and the smallest drop was 0,2. Although I did get one reading of 4.8 I discounted it as an one off, but I did get into the low 5's a lot.

Another poster responded by saying that he achieved similar results by eating carbs late evening. His theory was that he prevented the liver rush by not being hungry.

You could try both and let us all know if either worked. We need this sort of information.
