Fasting blood sugar

I have had diabetes since beginning of September. I am trying the low carb route and lots of exercise. Forgive me for asking a probably daft question. My original test showed BG 11.9 I have now got it between 5.5 and 9.8 on average during the day but my fasting blood sugar is always the highest of the day. Why is this when I have been in bed and not eaten anything? Will I be able to get that down in the lower band in time? I know this is "how long is a piece of string" but how long on average does it take to get good control? Am I looking at months, years? Any advice gratefully received and thank you for reading this post. :)

I don't bother testing in the morning anymore

I only bother with the results I can influence - ie 2 hrs after food.

if you want to test in the morning - take your meter to bed and test before you get up and out of bed, that way you may avoid the impact of the dawn phenonemon
