Hi everyone,

Even though I tightly control my BG levels with a LCHF diet (usually 1 hour postprandial I'm at 5.9 and 2 hours at 5.5-6.1), why cant I seem to get my fasting bloods lower than 5? Likewise, even though have tried fasting before bed or eating some carbohydrate before bed (with and without metformin) I can't get rid of the dawn phenomenon readings of 6.1 - 6.5.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Paul

When do you test for your fasting reading? Is it as soon as you get up, or just before you have breakfast?

Usually mid afternoon about 4pm and when I get up at about 7am.

You have nothing to eat between getting up at 7am, and testing at 4pm?

If that's the case, you should do a search on liver dump or dawn phenomenon. Our livers can gives us a dose of glucose from our own stores if we fast a very long time, or get very hungry. I'd say that's what is happening.

Try testing as soon as you get up, and see what that shows.
