Type 1 Fasting blood test

I have been asked to have a fasting blood test at the hospital, was told not to eat for 8 hours before.....

However what about taking insulin? I take my long lasting in the morning.

I used to try and comply with the 8-hour fast, but if I had to have some carbs I would have orange juice and this was deemed acceptable. I always felt it was an unwise stricture, and still do. Fortunately my consultant no longer asks for this. I never took my insulin beforehand but waited till after the blood test and knew I could eat again.
