I have been a T2 diabetic for 10 years. In 2010 I moved from North Yorkshire to Cheshire. My old doctor said that fasting is not needed for the HBA1C. My new docs say I have to fast. My co workers husband has today gone for a diabetes blood test and has been told he does not have to fast by his docs

Does anyone know the rights or wrongs of this. It seems to me that fasting is not a good idea especially if like me you have early morning highs (DP's according to DR Bernstien).

It does not seem to that their is a national strategy for treating T2 in N Yorks I went x 2 times per year in Cheshire only x 1.

You don't need to fast for HbA1c as it's based on your levels over the past 3 months. They might have asked you to fast if they are also doing a cholesterol test, in which case it's best if you do.
