Fasting sugars

Hi everyone

Just wondered what your fasting sugar ought to be? I've started restricting carbs. Before I go to bed my sugar is on about 5.5 - 6. I drink a hot chocolate and eight hours later, my fasting is between 4.3 and 4.8. Does the fact that it drops mean I am taking too much basal insulin?

Is "in the 4 range" a safe level to have while sleeping?
How long can you walk around with your sugars in the 4s without passing out.

Thanks

Non-diabetics walk round with their sugar levels in the 4s all day long.

If your basal is right then you should neither drop nor rise much overnight. It looks as though yours is a little high since I presume you don't bolus for the hot chocolate.

Hi Patti

Thanks for your reply. Your assumption is right as I don't bolus for the hot chocolate. Does that mean it would be a good idea to lower my basal say by one unit? I'm currently on 13 units basal.

Thanks
Goji

seems to be working fine for you at that level. why change it? if you were dropping low at night you would proberbly be higher in the morning. how are the number during the daytime?
