An awful lot.
Me again!

l know l am looking as l get used to things around 20-30 gram of carbs/day

1 gram protein/kg bodyweight

Fat l am very unsure of and does saturated fat matter or not? and is there any fat to .....? ratio l should aim for.

Calories also confuse me do l discount them or not as they do seem to be being discredited on amount/day/person and the way they are measured.

Thanks

hi, many people say if you eat less calories than your body needs per day to maintain your weight by about 500 calories you will lose weight, like it or not, on saying that if you eat too few you will not lose weight as your body will decide your starving therefore try to conserve your fat for when you need it, i personally ignored calories completely, although my diet was awful so im sure i had accidentally reduced my calories when i started to low carb, what the ratio beteen the low carbing and less calories was i have no idea, saturated fats i decided were ok so i ignored that too lol.... listening to this sounds like i ignored everything lol sorry

Some authors suggest your fat grams should be close to the total of protein & carb grams
Some also say amount of sat fet doesn't matter - I'm not convinced of the latter and get quite a lot of my fat from nuts, nut butters, tahini etc so my sat fat is lower than some others might advocate. In terms of the sat fat I do eat, I limit meat to 2x week, use coconut oil and butter for cooking, eat fish a couple of times a week, and have around 6 eggs a week. Not a great fan of cheese but get thru a pack of Parmesan or feta every couple of weeks

I am sorry if the following is hard to understand, I am not to good at explaining thing, but hear goes.

Calories are much like petrol, in as much as they are a measure of energy, if you poor the petrol on the floor and ignite it you will release the stored energy in one go, this is like eating sugar. But if you control the rate of burn, say with a wick or in a car, you still release the same amount of energy but over a longer period of time. I hope that makes sense so fare

No carbs. I gram of carb + 3.75 cals. So it follows that the slower you release the energy (carbs) from the food the better your body can utilize them, I wont go into the rest unless you want me to :***:

I hope this helps

Andy l am trying to not do that daftty!

Am going to cut a bit down on meat Badcat although we do eat it most days in some form, l know l should eat more fish but not a fish eater am trying to eat more though.

Yes please more Ian although l think a carbless diet is out of the question. The more info the better. I am sure there will be connections between them all and l am trying to understand it.

Have as much healthy fat as you like, butter, lard, coconut oil and good quality olive oil (only cold), if you have grass-fed beef or lamb enjoy the fat. Avocado and avocado oil is good and nuts in limited amounts. Here's some more inspiration www.lowcarbhealthyfat.com

MID the problem with this is that lots of people disagree (like most things diet related!!)

I only eat about 30g (or less) carbs per day and eat the same amount of protein as I did before going low carb (I don't think loads of protein could be good) so that leaves fat to fill up on.
Without fat I would be hungry and very very grumpy!

I don't count calories as that's never worked for me before. Now I'm not hungry except when it's meal time

Hope that helped a little.

Many thanks all. Yes making sense slowly but surely, There seems to be a big blank area in nutrition on this diet but probably wouldn't be so hard if the medical profession were a help, but seems we all muddle through it. I am happier now knowing l seem to be doing what everyone else is and you are doing ok, l realise it will vary but as a general rule. Helps put my mind at rest.

If you haven't found it already the low carb high fat diet doctor website might have some useful info for you (just google it and it should come up).
