Faulty needle?

Hi everyone and hope you are all as well as can be. Info please :problem: I dialled up my 15 units of Lantis this evening and tested that the needle was working in the usual way, it was. I injected into my tummy, but the pen stuck on 9. The pen was almost new so it wasn't as though it had run out. I kept pressing the button, but nothing happened. I replaced the needle and the pen worked perfectly. I am suffering so much anxiety at the moment that the slightest problem worries me to death. I injected another 9 units, but because I can't seem to keep things in perspective I'm now convincing myself that I haven't given myself the correct dosage and worrying that something will go wrong. Was it a faulty needle and if so why would it have become blocked? Would welcome some reassurrance please

I understand your concern but really, try not to worry too much. Your blood sugar might be a bit off for a while but as long as you test regularly and keep an eye on it you should be able to make any adjustments needed.

It is strange for it to happen half way through an injection but it rings a bell with me somewhere in my brain.... Something like that has happened to me before. I think it was actually the pen that was faulty rather than the needle. I think it was Lantus but maybe the old pen not the new ones.

I know it can be scary when things go awry. Recently for me, the slightest mistake in insulin dose and Im either sky-high or going hypo. But getting stressed about it isn't going to do you any good and it's not going to help you control your diabetes well. So try not to panic about it if you can. There's always people here to help if you slip up.

Hi, it's happened to me too, don't worry, keep an eye on your BG but I bet everything will be fine, after all, what's the worse that can happen? Your BG maybe a little high or low and you can work around that with a small adjustment to your insulin or an extra carb or two, right now I am munching on a late supper of banana because I miscalculated my evening meal carb content, but i'll live and so will you, stuff happens, and when it's through no fault of your own, you just have to work around it. Good luck, please don't worry xxx

thanks picklebean and neicy 0412 feeling a lot better having read about your experiences and your kind and sensible replies, :D have just done my bedtime test and reading is 11.2 :( Now is that because my lantus was incorrect? I'd got myself so stressed? or did I miscalculate my evening meal dosage? Anyway as you say I will live. Hope you enjoyed your banana :D Beats a correction dose any day :D Night xx

Last time this happened I just changed the pen, they can develop faults just like any other device whether they are old or new.
