Vera ( Brenda Blethyn ) is the first one that comes to mind,
oh! And Humphrey Goodman ( Kris Marshall ) from death in paradise.

Inspector Morse
DI Vivienne Deering (in "No Offence", the new series from Paul Abbott)
And above all......................

Gene Hunt, from Life on Mars. "Nobody move; you're surrounded by armed b*st*rds"!

Fire up the Quatro

That's quite a difficult one. Martin Shaw in George Gently, Wallander either of the swedish ones but def not Kenneth Brannagh and I can't for the life of me remember who he played but it was Ceiron Hinds in those Lynda la Plante stories. One was the Red Dahlia, Silent Scream etc oh, and Phil Davis in the Whitechapel series

I like Frost, to name but a few

I loved Frost too, such a hard so and so at times, but underneath there was vulnerability, I liked the episode with the Downs syndrome actor and the missing child. Such good acting.
I also like Vera, Poirot,Taggart and the old Perry Mason.

Grown to like Murdoch Mysteries, it's the historical aspect of finding new ways to solve crime.

Bones but getting jaded now.

But you just can't beat Gibbs! (NCIS)

Columbo

Kojak

Taggart

"It's Wednesday its lunchtime n I'm 'aving 'oops"

My all time favourite cop

Loving the new No Offence too

I used to enjoy watching the old films, with Margaret Rutherford as Jane Marple, her friend and sidekick in tow, was actually her real life husband. Murder ahoy and Murder most Foul springs to mind. a great actress.

One more and who can forget Harry Callahan (Dirty Harry).

Anyone remember "The Sweeny" with John Thaw and Dennis Waterman? I vaguely remember that the real life head of the 'Flying Squad' was jailed for corruption, or accepting bribes, or something........

Frost
Sherlock Holmes in elementary he's a good actor too

I love Elementary! It's great to see Sherlock as a flawed human being, not just a selfish know-it-all.

Death in Paradise is my favourite show during dark winter (and spring) late afternoons, when I come home from work cold and tired. Cheers me up, despite all the murders! It's also nice to see which actor has gone on holiday to the Caribbean to guest star in each episode

Not a detective by any means but "Equalizer" (Edward Woodward) gets my vote every single time. Amazing actor .... and for that matter, a great singer. Just watch / listen to this blinder.
