It sounds like they fobbed you off! Why not either insist you see your consultant and tell them these results or if you are still not happy Email the PALS department of your Hospital. That does the trick. Very good luck!

Just feel like I m ranting, depressed atm about the all thing, nutting a brick wall comes to mind.going to get onto the diabetes team tomorrow.

Are you on mixed insulin and fixed doses? Most people are on a basal/bolus regime, so we can adjust the amount of insulin depending on food, activity and bg.

just basal

Did you make any headway today @wiserkurtious?

I rang my diabetes team tuesday and explained my situation and she said maybe its time for insulin with meals, she has to speak with my consultant to give the go ahead.just hoping that he gives the go ahead so i can take better control

just a little update,I rand my diabetes clinic up yesterday to see if she has been in touch with my consultant to give the go ahead she said she hasn't been able to contact him so she will e-mail him!! I totally get that the nhs is under extreme pressure but would be nice if things could be a little quicker, only my health at risk :)

I rang my diabetes team 8 days ago btw and had to get back in touch with them

Have you considered asking your GP to contact your Consultant on you behalf?

When I was seeing an Endo privately (not diabetes related), he ordered up a raft of tests for my GP to run. When the results came back, she called him at his NHS clinic, to discuss them (there were a LOT and a some for scary rare conditions). . That just seemed all very business as usual for her (She's a keeper.)

Maybe a telephone conversation with your GP, to explain how you're feeling and to outline the mental and physical impacts on your day to day life.

This has been a really rough ride for you.

so an update, yesterday my diabetes team rang me and said they've been in touch with my consult and hes given the go ahead,so I ve been subscribed some apidra but the only problem for me is that they've sent it through to my doctors and there closed till tuesday with easter,so ya abit of a bummer but i m happy :)

That's (mainly!) fantastic news.

I'm sure it'll be a lot of work, but hopefully the beginning of a bit more control for you.

Pets are always ill on a Saturday afternoons.
Children are always sick on weekdays.
Prescription changes always take centuries to process!
It is The Law.
And very frustrating!!!

Have you asked for a copy of the consultant’s correspondance with the clinic?
Always good to get your own copy (just ring the clinic secretary and ask to be copied in :) )
And always worth checking that what you get on the prescription is what the consultant has prescribed :D surprising how often the specifics get lost in translation.

Pleased to hear you (finally!) have been given a prescription for bolus insulin. Sounds like a positive step once you get it after Easter is over.

I believe there are about 4 main options on prescribing insulin (regimes). From one injection a day which is the simplest to manage to a basal / bolus regime with carb counting being the most difficult. The basal / bolus + carb count can give the best control however.

I think consultant’s initially weigh up a patient’s ability to manage each of the options and prescribe based on a guesstimate of this.

Often basal/bolus can be simplified at first too, such as telling them to eat a certain meal everyday (a fixed amount of carbs) and the doctor adjusting doses instead of the patient. Totally agree with you, the doctor assesses the patient's ability and picks a method of management most likely to succeed for them.

got my apidra today,so now for the trial and error show :) but am feeling good and i know its going to take a little time to adjust and see how I react ty guys for all your comments

Good luck with the new regime - hope it can give you the better control you've been striving for!
