Feeling Depressed

Okay a little background. I have been a diabetic since the age of 11. I am now 19 years old. My sugars have been well controlled and I have recently moved onto the pump.

Before I was diagnosed I had one dream. To become a fighter pilot in the RAF. I was told after being diagnosed that I would not be able to do this. I still joined the cadets and enjoyed my time with them. I did well in GCSE's and was sent a leaflet through the post offering me a place at sandhurst military academy. However due too my medical condition I would only be allowed to be trained up as a MP or military police. I did not want to do this and turned the offer down.

I have since moved on to become an Engineer manufacturing turbo chargers for trucks. The work is good and well paid. I just feel as though I'm stuck in a rut. I can only see my future slowly progressing through the company. I still want to be a pilot and a recent article in the paper about BA's recruitment drive for more pilots made me remember that I will never get that chance.

I feel as though my diabetes is restricted my future and I will never be able to do all the things I would like.

Sorry if that sounded moany I know others have it alot worse, I just had to get that off my chest.

Hi Felly

Sorry to hear you are feeling so low. It's a horrible feeling. It must be hard to feel that you can't realise a dream. Perhaps there is something out there for you. You've clearly demonstrated you have good capabilities, being an Engineer.

I do hope you will be feeling more positive soon. I'm not the one to advise you really, as I'm struggling with various issues, plus diabetes, too. However, I'm sure someone will post to you soon. At least this message will bump your post!

Stick in there and keep hope. You might find there's something else you would love to achieve and can then focus on that.

Good luck
